Commissioner Ellis Issues Statement on Spectrum TV Investigation Alleging Texas Public Education Funds Being Redirected to Mike Miles’ Colorado Charter Schools

14 May, 24

“I’m shocked by what I saw in one news report regarding allegations concerning state-imposed HISD Superintendent Mike Miles. This also calls into question every dollar he has spent as superintendent. While teacher benefits are being slashed, libraries are being closed, and support staff are being let go, HISD parents and taxpayers deserve a robust and timely investigation to ensure that tax dollars are being used appropriately and ethically. This is especially true at a time when the district is under the direct control of the State and not accountable to a locally elected board.”

Improving mental health in our community

13 May, 24

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to bring awareness to the importance of mental health. It’s a time to talk openly about why it matters, how it affects all of us, and why there shouldn’t be stigma around seeking the help you need. In Precinct One, we’ve taken steps to expand and improve services to individuals and families who are struggling with mental health, substance use disorders, and behavioral health crises by helping direct federal dollars to local agencies and programs that have the greatest impact.
