Sunday, November 3rd marks the end of Daylight Saving. Before you go to bed Saturday night, November 2nd, set your clocks back 1 hour. So, don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors…and test them monthly. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire.

With Fire Prevention Week coming up October 6-12, the National Fire Protection Association has redesigned Sparky the Fire Dog’s website. By going to www.sparky.org parents, teachers, fire departments and kids can access Sparky’s fire safety storybook apps and eBooks. Kid-friendly activities for children, ages 3-12, range from comics and games to reading and eCards. Visitors of all ages can have fun while learning valuable safety tips.
- Woman Dies in southwest Harris County House Fire

At approximately 10:45 AM on 9/9/2013, fire crews from the West I-10 Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire located in the 21600 block of Park Tree Lane. Upon arrival, fire crews found fire and smoke damage to a two story house.

- Charges Dropped in Arson for Fraud Case

A decade after a fatal residential fire believed to be intentionally set to collect insurance money; prosecutors have dropped all charges against David and Sharon Watkins. Jeff McShan, a spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, and James Bolton, spokesman for the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, said that following an extensive administrative and peer review of the case by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), there simply was not enough evidence to move forward and rule beyond a reasonable doubt. A 2011 trial resulted in a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach a verdict..

At about 7:30 a.m. this morning the La Porte Fire Department responded to an explosion and fire in the 11400 Block of Fairmont Parkway in east Harris County. Upon arrival the La Porte Fire Department found heavy fire and structural damage to the Air Liquide Specialty Gas Facility.
