Departments in Harris County
There are a total of 54 fire departments which operate in Harris County. Forty two 42 of these fire departments provide fire protection to the unincorporated areas of Harris County.  There are 31 Emergency Service Districts which are a taxing authority to provide fire protection, emergency medical service, or both to a specific area. These ESD's contract with a local fire departments or emergency medical service company to provide the service.
