The Dispute Resolution Center offers mediation training in order to maintain a sufficient number of volunteer mediators to provide services in all programs.  While the first to provide mediation training in Texas, the Dispute Resolution Center is first and foremost a service organization, providing training only on an as needed basis. 

Mediation Training Offered:

 

40 Classroom Hour Basic Mediation Training in compliance with Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, Sec. 154.052 and meeting or exceeding the guidelines set forth by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable.

 

This training is generally only offered once a year.

 

Criteria for acceptance are based largely on the needs of the Center at the time of training.  You do not have to be an attorney to take this training and mediate in the Community Based Mediation Program.  Please call the Dispute Resolution Center at (713) 755-8274 for class schedules and pricing.

 

 

 

24 Classroom Hour Family Mediation Training in compliance with Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, Sec. 154.052 and meeting or exceeding the guidelines set forth by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable.

 

Trainees must first have completed a Dispute Resolution Center (or Dispute Resolution Center approved) 40 Classroom Hour Basic Mediation Training in compliance with Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, Sec. 154.052 and meeting or exceeding the guidelines set forth by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable. 

 

Trainees for this program must also possess a JD, or, if they plan to co-mediate with an attorney-mediator, an advanced degree in the field of mental health.

 

This training is generally only offered once a year.

14 Classroom Hour Children’s Protective Services Mediation Training

Mediators must have completed a Dispute Resolution Center (or Dispute Resolution Center approved) 40 Classroom Hour Basic Mediation Training in compliance with Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, Sec. 154.052 and meeting or exceeding the guidelines set forth by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable.

 

Mediators must also have completed a Dispute Resolution Center (or Dispute Resolution Center approved) 24 Classroom Hour Family Mediation Training in compliance with Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, Sec. 154.052 and meeting or exceeding the guidelines set forth by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable.

 

Trainees for this program must also possess a JD or an advanced degree in the field of mental health.

 

This training is generally only offered once a year.

Other Programs

 

Due to lighter case volume, the Dispute Resolution Center only offers advanced mediation training for other programs as agency needs dictate.
