Job Title:                  Administrative Assistant – Part Time

 

Department:            Harris County Precinct Four

                                    Humble, Texas

 

Hours:                       Maximum of 1040 Hours Annually

20 Hours per Week / Monday - Friday

            (Evenings and Weekends As Required)

 

Salary:                      Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview

                                    Based on 26 Pay Periods

 

Education/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience is also required. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a related curriculum and one (1) year of experience in a related field OR an Associate’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience is preferred. Must have experience and patience working with the public. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and Outlook are required. General knowledge of local natural history, flora and fauna is preferred. The successful candidate must possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as nature related articles, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual; write routine reports and correspondence, create informational handouts for program publicity; maintain records; speak comfortably and effectively before public groups of visitors, both formally and informally. Must be team oriented and possess the ability to work well with others. Must also possess skills to analyze, generate, research and refine programs. Good observation skills are required. Must be able to politely communicate and direct the general public. Must have the initiative and perseverance to complete projects; flexible personality, open to new ideas, and suggestions. First aid training is a plus.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the park superintendent/director, the Administrative Assistant works independently to perform various tasks associated with the operation and organization of the Nature Center. Adapts to a variety of situations, personalities, and available resources. Alerts to public safety and work hazards at all times. Answers telephone calls and emails from the public related to park facilities, programs, reservations, and volunteers. Assists naturalists in educational programs, events, and projects as needed. Assists volunteer coordinator with program and event volunteer recruitment. Compiles monthly program statistics and generates reservation reports. Conducts advance planning of work itineraries. Disseminates information on local plants, wildlife, and natural history. Maintains appearance of the Nature Center facilities, displays, and resources. Performs routine maintenance of the Nature Center, kitchen, and rest room. Organizes and maintains all Nature Center common files, office procedures, resources, and supplies. Plans and helps execute special events and festivals held throughout the year. Tracks donations made to Jones Park and the Jesse Jones Park Volunteers. Updates event flyers, handouts and park visitor information. Works directly with staff, and at times oversees volunteers in duties and projects. Writes general correspondence on behalf of the director.

 

PHYSICAL: While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly stands, walks, uses hands and fingers to handle; feels and reaches with hands and arms. Frequently sits, climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls; talks, hears, tastes or smells. Regularly lifts and/or moves up to twenty (20) pounds. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to forty (40) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  

 

ENVIRONMENTAL: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is periodically exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; vibration; night-time shifts; and routine use of a computer monitor. The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
