JOB TITLE: Bus Driver
DEPARTMENT: Precinct Four
HOURS: 40 Hours per Week
Evenings and Weekends As Required
SALARY: Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview
Based On 26 Pay Periods
EDUCATION: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
JOB SKILLS: Must have a valid Texas commercial driver's license (CDL) class B with (P) passenger endorsement and a good driving record. Friendly, accommodating and positive attitude is required at all times.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the safety and security of all passengers to and from their destination. Acts as liaison between passengers and the Commissioner/Senior Adult Program of Precinct 4, as well as between other County departments. Communicates with passengers and assists with boarding and de-boarding the vehicle and loads/ unloads any baggage and/or necessary equipment. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passengers comfort. Complies with all traffic laws, maintains safe driving speeds and safe operation of the vehicle during all types of conditions. Reports delays and/or accidents, as well as any vehicle damage, mechanical, or electrical problems. Reports any action taken to correct the problem. Reports to work on time to prepare vehicle for that days’ trip, including inspection of the vehicle’s operable condition and completes the Driver’s Trip Report. Becomes familiar with the trip location (s) and / or reads any necessary maps. Reports to pick-up point to receive passengers 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure time. Returns the vehicle in a clean and operable condition. Refuels the vehicle, removes any trash, and prepares vehicle for the next trip. Washes, sweeps and mops the vehicle. Refrains from smoking and chewing (gum or tobacco) while driving Precinct 4 vehicles. Records information and completes paper work for daily trips. Submits receipts for driver’s meal and other expenses to the trip coordinator upon completion of each trip. Reports to Central Office/ Transportation to perform minor clerical duties and assists in office or offsite at special events.
PHYSICAL: Uses hands for reaching. Talks and listens. Stands, walks and sits. Lifts or moves up to 10lbs. and occasionally lifts and moves up to 100 lbs. Uses close, distance or peripheral vision.
ENVIRO: Exposed to fumes or airborne particles; weather conditions and vibration. Noise levels are usually moderate.
Employment is contingent upon undergoing and passing an annual physical exam. The examination is to ensure the safety of the employee and constituents.
