JOB TITLE:                 Young Adult Librarian 

 

DEPARTMENT:           Library

                                     Barbara Bush Branch              Spring, TX 

 

HOURS:                       40 Hours per Week

                                     Includes Nights and Saturdays As Needed 

 

SALARY:                     $3,324.53 per Month

                                     Based on 26 Pay Periods

 

EDUCATION:  Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: Previous work in young adult, children’s service or a public library is preferred.


JOB SKILLS: The successful candidate must be customer service oriented, possess good communications skills and the ability to organize work priorities. Enjoys working in fast-paced team environment and has the ability to work well with the public and library staff. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Works as part of the adult services team under the supervision of the Assistant Branch Librarian for Adult Services. Provides reader’s advisory and reference services for adults and young adults including on-line computer searching. Oversees the development and maintenance of the young adult materials collection.      Creates and works with young adult committee made up of local teenagers. Identifies curriculum needs in the community; plans and provides services to meet those needs.  Cultivates cooperative relationships with local junior high school and high school teachers and librarians. Organizes library programming and displays for young adults; interprets and implements library policies and procedures for library customers. Develops a year-round young adult volunteer program. Assumes supervisory responsibilities when assigned. Maintains an awareness of young adult literature and services. Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics. Attends professional conferences, activities, and staff meetings and actively serves on committees; obtains a minimum of 20 training hours per calendar year and performs other work as needed.
