beat the heat

Precinct 6 Beat the Heat Cars. (Left to Right) Deputy Moises Davila, the late Lt. Glenn Ellis, and former Cpl. Juan Pedraza

On October 16 and 17, 2009 Beat the Heat World Finals were hosted in Denton, Texas with superb racing conditions.  The late Lt. Glenn Ellis participated in the world finals with his 1974 Chevrolet Camaro named “Heat Wave,” which had a avery successful run at the North Star Dragway. This world final was unlike no other in the past for the Ellis Racing Team and Harris County Precinct 6 Beat the Heat.

Ellis Racing added a new addition to his team with a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro named “JAWS” which is owned and operated by Cpl. Johnny Pedraza. Both cars showed outstanding performances in competition with other drivers and vehicles from across the world.

The Beat the Heat program started as a nationwide program, but over the years has expanded its efforts to keep racing on the tracks and not on the streets to other parts of the world such Canada, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom and Australia.   The program is also committed in trying to prevent young adults from driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, encouraging them to stay in school and to promote a better understanding with law enforcement and firefighters and the communities they serve.

Harris County Precinct 6 Beat the Heat and Ellis Racing would like to Thank Constable Trevino, family and friends for the support of the program and look forward to the next competition to represent our program and agency.  This Beat the Heat page is dedicated to the memory of Lt. Glenn Ellis, Born  July 18, 1943 & Passed Away September 17, 2011. Rest In Peace Lt. Ellis.
