Tropical Storm Allison hit the Houston area in 2001. On June 8th, 2001, at approximately 4:00 P.M. heavy rain and significant flooding began in Precinct 3. As a result many citizens were stranded. The National Guard responded with twelve military trucks and several Black Hawk Helicopters to help evacuate the citizens.
After witnessing the usefulness of the military trucks in high water Constable Ken Jones purchased a 1967 Kaiser-Jeep 2 ½ ton 6 x 6 military truck for the department.

The truck is operated by a crew of two to three deputies and is capable of operations in 30” of water and with certain modifications that have been made can operate in slightly deeper water if needed. The truck can also be used in off-road operations and is equipped with a 10K pound front PTO winch. The truck can transport approximately 20-30 people at a time depending on conditions and distance to be traveled. The truck is also used to deploy the rescue boat when conditions prevent standard deployment by a pickup truck used to pull the boat.
